Re: A good reason to kill raccoons!

Fella told me one time the only sporting way to kill a coon was to make it fall out and fight the dogs. Heck with that. Too much invested in a good tree dog to let a coon rip it up. I tie the dog back and shoot for the brain.

Re: Need opinions on rifle scope

DNZ is good stuff. If my wife can't knock a scope wearing them off zero, they gotta be tough. Kinda hurts my feelings watching that woman pull a rifle up a tree. :pale: No idea on ring height if DNZ couldn't say. I know that when I sight in a scope mounted high that I try to get it shooting a little...

Re: Need opinions on rifle scope

That's a heckuva buy. If you have trouble making out the reticle at last light, Leupold will swap in whatever you want for a fee.

A review of Hevi 00 claims a modified choke put all pellets in 18" at 50 yards. The further report is all pellets that hit at 75 yards exited.

Re: Need opinions on rifle scope

Easiest thing to do is order up your likeliest suspects and compare side by side in the woods as the light fades. Having done so, I can tell you that VX2 is clearly not as good as VX3. And to do what you want with VX3, you need a heavy reticle. Weaver Super Slam and Grand Slam compared better than V...

Re: TSS buckshot opinions

Trajectory? A 3.5" load of 00 Pb will do a lot more than I'll type on the web, but you gotta use some Kentucky windage to put the pellets on the neck.

Re: Need opinions on rifle scope

Now see I disagree with magnification making the image darker. Increasing magnification within the limits of the scope makes the image appear bright. In a good quality 3-9x40, 6x is brighter in low light than 3x. 9x might be darker. Anyhow, Natchez SS has a 10% off sale and ebates cash back going on...

Re: Need opinions on rifle scope

How late? 1/2 hour after sunset you can do with VX3 class glass and a heavy or lit reticle. 1 hour after you need to spend some money. What is the budget? Do you care about field of view or objective size? How far do you shoot?

Re: Oh my knee!

My wife repeatedly tore her meniscus until the material built up so much she had to have it cleared out. It started when she played basketball in HS. Over the years it'd happen over again. She walks several miles per day at work. She spends about a dozen hours per week icing her knee to reduce swell...

Wife used one for a while. Did good with lead fives. Slide release is apt to activate when you don't want it to.

Now they've followed up asking to send a booklet to fill out for a week. They want to know which radio stations I listen to. I don't listen to the radio. I'll be looking up bluegrass stations to stream over the web.

Supposedly they send a few bucks after you return the booklet.

If you get a letter from Nielsen ratings, don't throw it in the trash. There's an actual dollar bill in there.

Re: Nitro TSS Pricing Released

Federal's prices on 20ga are the ones I'm interested in. I'm fine with their heavy 7 load, but if they stop making it I'll need something else. It takes me for bleedin' ever to assemble a TSS load; pop the primer, clean the case, dry the case, prime the case, cut the OSC, cut the mylar, prep the wad...

I've heard of as far South as FL. The must get smaller as you go South. Biggest one I ever caught was the first one I ever saw. SC record is about 3#. Pretty sure that one was bigger. I'd only ever seen one in pictures and had no thought of a record book. I looked at it a bit and tossed it back in t...

Good on him! Football is good for the young fellas growing up.

I know nothing about any of the games. I just make the kids do whatever the coach was having them do at practice. People think I'm lying because the kids tend to do well for little kids. All they learn from me is hunting and fishing.
