Re: Turkey populations in your area

Decreasing in Louisiana and Southeast Kansas where I hunt. They are using lots of chicken poop for fertilizer in fields and I wonder if they are killing our turkeys in Kansas with it I have seen a flock about disappear conincidental to use of chicken litter on pasture. It could be coincidence or a ...

Re: Turkey populations in your area

Increasing, but depending on where you are it might not seem like it. Two years ago we had very few birds. Last year we had more jakes than I had seen in years and it seemed like there were a lot of birds even though gobblers were few because they were concentrated in core areas. This year they're s...

Re: go to diaphragm calls

I have two that I have used for maybe ten years. I run only these two because they are effective and run the same while having different sounds. Having several different mouth calls and trying to remember how to run each was not a good plan for me. I found two that run the same, have different sound...

Re: I Don't Trust My .410 Anymore

I'll weigh in a little in case it might help. Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but 120 in the 10" seems low with a turkey choke. I thought normal was more like 140. The little Yildiz is my favorite turkey gun, but I don't carry it when I'm feeling serious. The .410 pattern is tight. I shot min...

westkentuckyoutdoors.com says they do. This is not a recommendation as I have not done anything them. I just recalled there was only one I ever found online and had it bookmarked.

I suggest contacting the manufacturer or importer to learn what they are willing to do if the gun doesn't shoot as you would like.

Re: Thinking of letting one go....

Did you check completed auctions on gunbroker? gunbroker prices are a little higher than local prices due to fees and shipping hassles. I always offer free shipping with a hard plastic gun case. The cost is factored into my price.

One of the things I like about these forums is seeing accounts of people who are ate up with it way worse than I am. I'm always telling the wife that is she thinks I'm bad, she should look at 'this'.

Re: #6 Lead Maximum Effective Range

I don't know about the numbers, but that will do past fifty as tested in vivo. At the range a .410 will hold a lead pattern you might as well go 7 1/2s. You'll probably see a sufficient pattern to 20 yards or so with a full choke.

There's a 28ga Bobwhite on gunbroker for $700. There's also a 5# Cynergy Feather 20ga on there, but it has 28" barrels.

.410 TSS equal old 12 gauge lead. If weight doesn't matter, might as well carry the 12.

Re: What's your run n gun strategy

Don't call from a spot that wouldn't be a good set up. I'd rather go away to find a good spot than set up wrong. One thing to note is if a hen is going away to higher ground, that says, "Meet me up there." "Here I am. Where I am is moving that way. Show yourself in the direction I am moving."

Re: which o/u

Whatever you get, be sure the barrels were well regulated before you buy it or it comes with a warranty whereby the regulation will be corrected. If you can find a Cynergy Feather and can be sure it hits where it oughta, that'd be about top of the heap for a lightweight and little better quality gun...

Re: Blown Pattern?

Lead 7.5s would probably do, if tightly choked. I have seen some inconsistency in more loosely choked patterns with complicated wad assemblies. I don't understand it.

How far apart are you barrels shooting at short range?

Re: Suppressor host

Those are supersonic, right? TSS could be loaded subsonic and still kill gobblers like regular. Website looks like the choketube goes in like regular and the suppressor mounts on the choke. Federal 2oz lead Flite Control might work out of the full choke they have if the advertised 1150fps is reduced...
