Re: Stevens 220A 20 ga, 2-3/4", 28" fixed full, new loads

I'm going to take the 220A out tomorrow for a field test if the creek don't rise. Loaded up the StubbyXLG load for it and gonna shoot it with just the bead.

Re: 4 in a line!!

I've hunted with up to 5 in a group. The most I ever hunted with in one group, and killed a turkey, was 4. It complicates things to try and get everybody still.... But I prefer to hunt alone.

Re: Stevens 220A 20 ga, 2-3/4", 28" fixed full, new loads

Hal, I posted patterns in my factory full 220A over 4 years ago shooting the Kyle Smith 1 oz. and your 1 5/16 oz. loads. They looked good enough for hunting. The trigger is smooth and light. POA/POI off the bead--eh. http://www.gobblernation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7616&p=77874&hilit=Savage...

Looking good. If it's as light as the Yildiz, I don't think I'd want to shoot more than 1&5/8s oz. So I assume you like the new wads?
I may slip down to 1-7/16 oz...

Re: Stevens 220A 20 ga, 2-3/4", 28" fixed full, new loads

For hunting, I don't see how re-choking would make an appreciable difference. All the patterns look fine. There doesn't appear to a be significant difference in counts in any of the patterns. It's just how much your shoulder is willing to take among the load choices. You might quibble with the 10-2...

Stevens 220A 20 ga, 2-3/4", 28" fixed full, new loads

I bought a new-to-me Stevens 220A 20 ga (2-3/4" chamber) with a 28" fixed full barrel a few weeks back. The muzzle mics in at .581. It's as light as my Yildiz .410 and carries around real nice. I decided to put sling swivel studs on it so I could sling, but since the forearm snaps off, I wrapped cam...

Re: 12 ga 2 3/4” tss loads

The first load I came up with back in '06 with the 9s was a 2-3/4" 1-5/8 oz 12 ga load for my brother's old Wingmaster. It was a gun he won in the 80s in a biggest deer contest. Anyway, he killed two with it the next spring in TX that were much farther than polite company will talk about when he bad...

Lesson one never call if you are not ready kill a turkey
I'd been calling for the past 3 hours, ready to kill any bird at any moment the whole time - except for about a 30 second window. He was a very fortunate fowl.

closest I've ever called one in without killing him

Was out this weekend and prospecting along, and around mid morning worked my way over to a big creek to see if I could cross it. I saw that I could and called a few times before I dropped down to cross. It took about 1-1/2 minute, when I was about in the middle of the creek with my gun strapped on m...

Longest spurs I've ever seen on a bird I killed was 1-7/16" off a Texas rio.
