Re: Favorite Turkey?
I always reference the same couple of hunts when I get asked this. #1. The first double with my grandfather. #2. These are two old gobblers that ran together. My grandfather and his older brother hunted them 2 seasons and kept getting fooled by them. Late in April the second season, I asked if I cou...

Re: Mossburg 835
I always liked the Indian Creek 675, Mad Maxx 675, and Jellyhead 690 in the 835.
I’m quite sure Sumtoy would work well if he’d just call William and tell him what he wants to shoot. William will build the right choke for him.

Re: Mentoring
Unfortunately, kids that are interested in the outdoors are pretty rare these days. If the opportunity presents itself I’m always happy to jump on it but it’s been a few years. Use to be easy to find a kid wanting to go. Now it seems like if it doesn’t involve a smart phone, they are just not inter...

I’ve been through this and never had anyone have trouble understanding which bird or to actually shoot the wrong bird.
I have had some one shoot early on the count though

That is exactly like my youth 870 20 gauge! I got it either in 1996 or 1998, can’t remember if I was 8 or 10, but we’ve walked a lot of miles and killed a whole bunch of critters together!

Re: Remington 870 20 - choke options
I would buy the 575.
I’ve shot a Carlsons 575, a truglo GSX, and a SumToy 562 in my 21”. The SumToy was awesome with Hevi 6’s but too tight for me with TSS. I stuck with the Carlsons 575.

Man that’s a nice package!
Re: Carlsons
I personally wouldn’t go with a 640 choke for TSS in that gun.
Indian Creek 660 or 665
SumToy (William would know what size)
Those are the two I’d consider. Proven results time and again.

Yes you can slap a full size stock on it no problem.
I have had my compact 21” 870 20 gauge for 25 seasons now.

Really inside 50 it’s a moot point from my years of shooting. Now once you hit and 60 and beyond, you best know what your pattern is doing.

Re: What guns are you looking to buy?
Showstopper, you sound as bad as me. I love a new gun as much as a kid likes toys at Christmas! I do agree with you on narrowing it down and getting that “ONE”. I have basically went to my little 28 exclusively and the Maxus gets used as a backup. I used to have 8 or 10 turkey guns and I finally fou...

Re: Calls that seem to work when nothing else will
I tend to agree, but I’m not sure I can quantify it.
Birds that won’t work with one call type seem to commit suicide with another.
I like to keep something unique in my vest just for those times a slate or glass doesn’t seem to be doing it.

Re: What guns are you looking to buy?
I’m going to buy the new A5 20 gauge with a 26” barrel as soon as I get my hands on one. Not if I find one first! Ha jkjk I’ll probably do the same pal. Haven’t had a browning semi auto yet so might as well I have the Maxus 3.5” 26” barrel in full camo for harsh duty. I’m really looking forward to ...

Re: 28ga. double or auto
I’m using the 28 Bobwhite setup like Doc. He actually set this one up if memory serves.
I shoot T9’s 1.5 ounce in both barrels. Briley XF in left barrel and Trulock Skeet in the right barrel.
I’m good to 30 yards with the open barrel and too far in the tight...
