Skunked....
Kyle and I headed to the Sumter National forest up in Whitmire, SC this past Thursday. With hopes of gobbles and gobblers galore... Well hopes smashed!! :banghead: We were at a primitive campsite, so no electricity. I brought a generator, but quiet hours didn't allow it after 10 p.m. Not a big deal ...

Re: Got one.
Good job man! I would call that bird a gobbler. I had something similar happen to me last year. I had a hot one coming through the creek in some thick palm plants. All I could see was a solid white head and the top of his fan at about 30 yards. His gobble sounded like a monster bird. After I shot I ...

Re: What you think Guys? Ultimate Turkey Hunting Boot??
I had a pair of Brownings that lasted several years, until this past year. DO NOT buy Game Winner snake boots. I should have known better than to get a $90 pair of snake boots and expect them to be worth a crap. They were leaking on my first hunt in less than ankle deep water. Just ordered a pair of...

Re: What you think Guys? Ultimate Turkey Hunting Boot??
If I needed snake protection, I would probably go with them, but snakes aren't an issue where I'm at. Heck, it's MO Obsession.........BUY EM! No snakes?! Man do I wish! I stepped on a 58" cottonmouth 2 years ago on a beaver dam and that ole boy had me speaking Chinese. He's on a board on my wa...

Flashlights. I have bought and lost many. Now I just get the little Browning hat clip lights. I got about 5 of them. Cheap, so I don't care if I lose them.

Kyle strikes again!!!
If you guys recall, Kyle (my neighbor's 14 year old boy) killed his first gobbler last weekend. Well, the boy done struck again! Last night, he roosted a big bird in the same place we've been seeing a biggun. This morning, despite a steady rain and being by himself, he was in the hay field 100 yards...

Ice broken... Finally!!
Well, here it is 2 weeks into the season and I finally got a bird on the ground! Got permission to hunt a spot from a buddy yesterday afternoon and about 6:30 p.m., I headed that way. At 6:40, I stood on the edge of a big dog leg field and called. On the opposite end of the dog leg (out of view), a ...

Re: Wild Turkey Recipe
I make kabobs out of mine... 1. Slice the breasts into thin strips. 2. Marinate in marinade of choice for at least 24 hours. I use Italian dressing. 3. Stab meat with skewers. 4. Wrap skewers in thick-cut bacon. 5. Grill slowly until bacon has tightened up and is a crispy on the edges. 6. Put at lea...

Some say more than others and some say not as much. Either way, I think I'm going to have to start focusing on more "turkey predator" control in the future. Thanks for the input everyone!

Finally got a bird on the ground!
This season has been tough so far, but this morning was a quick one. It was my neighbors 14 yr old boy Kyle, my 9 yr old daughter Maggie, and me hunting. We were on the edge of a cow pasture looking at the creek woods while it was still dark. I hooted once just to make sure we weren't too close to t...

Coyotes and the turkey population...
How hard do you think that coyotes are on the turkey population? I've been doing some research the past few days and I'm curious to hear what you guys say on the subject. I know I've seen a gradual decline in turkey numbers in my immediate area. I've also seen a sharp rise in the number of new turke...

Re: Oh boy they are tough in SC
My cousin killed a big bird on Friday, but only because the hens got riled up and lured him to the gun. Gobbling has definitely been scarce after fly down. I had crap luck all weekend. Cuz had one come to within 60 yards this morning. He was henned up too though and something spooked the whole flock...

Re: Aim point of a Gobbler
I aimed for the head one time... That bird probably died of old age. Now I aim for the spot where the neck meets the feathers. I think I've pulled maybe 5 pellets out of breast meat with that shot placement over the last few years.

Looks real good! I'm a .270 man too. Never heard of the XCR version until seeing yours. Much difference between that one and a regular 700?
