Re: Indian Creek choke follow-up
I bet if you showed that pattern to anyone and never said anything odds are they wouldn't guess that it's a 40 yard .410 pattern.

Re: Federal Heavyweight lethal distance ?
The problem is getting the pattern on the bird. I handloaded some hw 7's this year. I shot an 1 3/8oz load through an improved modified choke and it looked like a turkey pattern. Not a 30" pattern, but a 15" pattern at 40 yards. From my testing even through a more open choke you need birds...

Re: Factory fixed choke
A 410 is awful for not shooting consistent numbers and the pattern wandering. Same gun same load I'v had numbers vary from 60-160. My 20 gauge is very consistent. So test multiple loads and each shell multiple times. One great shot on a paper with a 410 doesnt mean a thing.

Re: First Bird Despite Disrespectful Hunters
Last year on opening day, we were hit with the lows and highs of hunting all in one day. After being the first one to the spot, I am a waterfowl hunter, so that means something to me, but apparently doesn't mean anything to others, we had hunters swing in and cut in behind us a shoot birds on their...

Re: 28 ga contender Apex patterns
139 seems low. A 28 gauge shooting 9's or 9.5's has more potential than that.
Re: Too Tight
Light gun, red dot, and a more open choke should get you back on track. I'm near sighted and the three dot fiber optic sights everybody uses on turkey guns just didn't work for me. I got the red dot and can focus and see everything clear again and center pattern hits were I want it to.

Re: Face masks
I never use a mask. Sometimes I'll use a camo bandanna, but most of the time I don't even bother or get in a hurry and forget to pull it up over my face when needed. Terrain up here plays a big part. Rarely do I get to see a bird come In from a long ways off or call up large numbers of birds at once...
Re: Too Tight
I don't think your problem is the lack of duplex shot. I think the problem is the Indian more so than the bow. But I can think of 3 solutions 1.) A red dot lined up with a red head usual end up with a dead bird. 2.) Open up your choke, what you give up at 50 you will gain at 20. 3.) It's a scatter g...

Re: Stevens .410 choke thread pattern Qs
Honestly you might call Savage and tell them your choke gets loose every shot as you had mentioned in another post. They may send you a replacement to try. Mine screws loose every shot, not sure if it's the choke or gun. On a side note my savage 301 turkey showed up with the swivels sling stud strip...

Re: Stevens .410 choke thread pattern Qs
There so new I doubt you will find anyone who will sell the factory choke. Give it time and I'm sure sumtoy, Indian Creek, jebs or someone will start making chokes for this gun specifically. Might pick up a factory choke after somebody upgrades, but currently there's not much to upgrade to. I will s...

Re: Stevens .410 choke thread pattern Qs
I believe the choke must be specific to the Savage 301. The threads seem to be invector pattern, but the length seems to be different.

Re: XXXL Remington 870 w/ IC 555
That pattern looks awesome. With that load, to me a 350/250 split is perfect and thats what's you have. If you decide to go with the .562 Indian Creek, I'll take the .555 off your hands.

Re: New Stevens 301 Turkey .410
That is strange that they took it off the site. I believe shotshow is next week and Savage is all about the publicity type stuff. Maybe they wanted to try to keep it quiet till then and it may show back up after.
