You can't go wrong with one of his calls and yes I have asked him about wood recommendations. Curious what wood combos you may have, looking for inspiration I guess. I am near the top of his list and excited!!
Thank you!

July 4th Fireworks Call
Just wanted to share this one. Dyed and stabilized maple burl which sort of reminds me of fireworks going off. This is one of the best sounding burl pot calls I have made. HD striker with bloodwood top. Thanks for looking and your support! John, Mad Baron Custom Calls https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.co...

Fun making this call for a repeat customer. He is celebrating his 200th turkey harvest, WOW! This hen just flew to Northern California. Thanks for looking. Ziricote and green slate ready to hunt!
Finished her up and wanted to share. Nice piece of Ziricote with green slate over glass. You get a little higher pitch but still some rasp from the green slate. This one is going down to North Carolina. Thanks for looking! Mad Baron Custom Calls on Facebook and Instagram https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn...

Re: More Orion Series strikers to share
My favorite strikers to make are Bloodwood, Canarywood, and this high density laminate material. It is consistent, dense, finishes beautifully and makes a great striker. Well balanced and comfortable in the hand. So far feedback has been very positive and a few guys have bought a second after gettin...

Re: Neil "Gobbler" Cost box calls for sale.
Ebay is going to get them seem by many collectors but you will pay a 11% fee, need a PayPal account and if you are new to Ebay some people may be Leary of buying a high dollar item from a new seller. ( but maybe you are a long time Ebayer?) They sell on Ebay for 1,300 to 1,600 from what I have seen....

Re: Grand Slam Done 2019!
Awesome! Which states with Merriams are already open this early? I guess to clarify the whole slam was not done this year but completed this year. Hunted Merriams in Nebraska in 2016 and 2017 and it was some fantastic hunting! Archery turkey season in NE opened March 25th this year, gun is mid Apri...

Grand Slam Done 2019!
Proud to say I am in the Grand Slam club after a very hard Osceola hunt last week. I was in northern part of their range and cold temps made for quiet birds that did not act like it was Spring. Still saw hens and Jake's every day and tons of wildlife. Saw one gobbler in 4 days. Got it done on the la...

Padauk and 3" Copper. Killer Kombo!
To my ear, I love this combination! Got a few in the hands of turkey hunters and feedback has been great. There is a distinct Yawk to the high low Yelp. Paired with a HD two piece striker. A little something different for those wise old Tom's. Got a few ready to go and a Padauk with Yellowheart acce...

Re: Quiet slate pot call
Sound like you are looking for a slate pocket player from Madhatter, Redbeard, or also one of his 3" slate calls. I also make some smaller slate that can be played soft. I do not think the sanding of slate effects volume but the pressure you apply when calling does for sure. John, Mad Baron Cus...

Re: Bedraggled Birds Unlike Geese to Water
This reminds me of when I turkey hunted in far NE Nebraska where Louis and Clark went up the river. There was a sign in the park that said the expedition had turkey for dinner and wrote is was terrible and vile tasting. Historians think they ate a vulture by mistake. A mistake you will only do once ...
