Re: What turkey gun?

To broaden the discussion a little, guns are like women. We all have our different attractions for different "brands and models". And there is one out there for everyone to be pleased with. My advice if you want a new gun, go to the big gun shops and handle as many as you can and pick the ...

Re: Turkey tote

I took a padded rifle sling and tied paracord on each end to make a loop for the feet and head.
The padding helps soften the weight on your shoulder. I usually keep the tail in front as I'm walking so to keep the tail feathers protected from damage from briars/brush.

Re: Shotgun sights

I'll also put in a vote for red dots. After missing a bird at 39 yards standing still about five years ago I went to a Tru-glo red dot with a saddle mount and now have several. I've read negative comments about Tru-glo products on here but they have held up good for me on my shotguns. 20 years ago, ...

Re: Dos and don'ts

Don't carry your fold up decoy in the back of your vest on a super quiet morning with a gobbling bird nearby and expect him not to hear you pull it out. At least twice this has happened to me and the birds never made another gobble. Birds have super hearing especially when it is dead still in the wo...

Re: Vests

Last year I gave up my turkey vest and went to a camo day pack from Walmart. It works pretty darn good. Using a vest when you sit down, you have to open up your vest so the things you need are in the pockets of the vest to your left or right and that creates a lot of hand and arm movements to retrie...

Re: Flashlight suggestions

I just purchased the J5 Tactical V1 Pro from Amazon---just came yesterday. It's a pretty small 300 lumens flashlight. Takes one AA battery. It is rated real good on Amazon with 13000 reviews. For only $12.00--it seems like a good deal. I think you need at least 250 lumens for a turkey hunting flashl...

April or May---Which is best ??

Planning on a trip out to Kansas and Nebraska next spring for my Rio and Merriam. Because of my job, I can't leave until April 12th or May 12th---whichever month I choose. Which would be the best month to hunt ? If I wait until the middle of May, are the birds going to be more "out of the mood&...

Re: THE MYTH OF THE BEST SPRING TURKEY HUNTER

Sincerely enjoyed the above posts. Some of you express yourselves pretty good. I certainly agree that most or all of us go thru a series of stages as we get older and more experienced in our hunting careers. I remember when I was real young and got my first BB gun--A Daisy model 25--- that I had to ...

Has anyone tried a Turkey Decoy Umbrella

I'm planning a trip out west to the wide open spaces. How successful are the fanned out gobbler decoys that you hide behind and crawl toward the birds ?? I would think they would be pretty good especially early in the season when the gobblers are henned up and not wanting another bird near his hens....

Re: Eastern hunter needs advice to hunt west

Thanks for all the good advice.

Does everyone think those $100.00 decoys are a game changer ? I've always just used cheap fold up decoys here in the east. Like other comments on this board, carrying full size decoys is a pain.

Eastern hunter needs advice to hunt west

Hello Everyone-----I just registered yesterday---this is a great forum for information. I live near Winston Salem North Carolina and have been a serious turkey hunter since 1995--mostly hunting the mountains of North Carolina near Boone. Last March, my 29 year old son and I drove to Florida and shot...

Re: 835 ulti mag

I bought an 835 back in 1995--with a 24 inch barrel --when I wanted a 3 1/2 inch gun and Remington wasn't making one yet and I'm still very happy with it. I've dropped back down to 3 inch shells after deciding the 3 1/2 inch were not worth the pounding you get. I'm now shooting Winchester Long Beard...

Re: best bincolulars for $150

I'll put in another vote for Leupold Yosemite. They are small and easy to carry turkey hunting here in the east and VERY clear for the price. For years I was always one of those people that thought you didn't need to carry binoculars---and sometimes you don't need them. Last March my son and I took ...
