Re: Day 1 Turkey Convention

Unless things changed parking at the nearby mall was an easy option. Did it a few times when we lived in western KY. Wife then went along and wore the mall out while I was at the convention. This info is dated so maybe someone else will chime in. That mall took a big hit a few years ago when the Cum...

Re: Blown away

Tip - if you see a "Custards Last Stand" - buy it. No longer politically correct so you won't find many anymore. Usually hung over the bar in old type taverns. There are replicas but the originals will be covered with a yellow sheen from years of cigarette smoke.

Re: Frozen Turkeys .

My wife and I have lived in both OH and KY. She thought Sunday was the most miserable winter weather day she had ever experienced in FL. It reminded me of a November day in OH/KY when the rain was getting ready to change over to sleet. Of course the nearby cousins had family down from NJ. The temps ...

We had lows in the mid 40s this morning. For south FL that is almost like zero. We'll make it.

Re: Thank God for Survelliance Cameras!!!!

You are lucky. In my 27 years of LEO experience the large chains such as Walmart rather not get too involved in parking lot incidents, especially hit and run damage. Often heard "that camera is down". Often was very skeptical with that answer. I guess you were special or their management felt this i...

Re: Florida Public Land Tactics and Advice on General Approach?

You are getting good advice. The quota system is the way to go but with the point preference system you are a ways off from drawing a good WMA. Luck in the re-draws or luck in the Special Opportunity Hunts (different rules) will be your fate for a few years. Several WMAs are wide open. The FWC web s...

 They are opening a new store in our city in mid month. Probably go in, look around, and then order something from Amazon. I'll wear an NRA hat. Probably get followed around by security. Lots of opening day drawings and "celebrities" to bother also. I'm sure they'll be happy to discuss gun issu...

No - Just stacked it on. Does look a little weird I guess but I no longer think about recoil. Look at the Kill Thread (bird #5). Good picture of it there. The extra length seems to help my aim point.

Re: Knight TK2000 12ga with TSS 9’s

Always glad to see TK post. Been using mine for several years now and managed to add two Florida birds to the kill thread this season. Any discussion on any forum mentions the excessive recoil. I added a slip on pad to mine. Makes me feel better anyway. In 2017 played with some lighter loading but i...

Are they worse on public land than they are on private?? Let the debate begin!! :angel4: The Land Between the Lakes area in western KY/TN is still the worst tick area I've ever experienced. Re: 22 Rifle sports a new tube

There was a season many years ago when a few of us had a squirrel contest. Ohio limit was four. We would each take four shells. A 581 and a 580 (tube feed) often tied. Excellent rifles. Mine is at least forty if not fifty years old.

Re: 22 Rifle sports a new tube

I like Simmons. Be aware if it is a big game scope you may have parallax problems on close range shots. I made that mistake years ago with my Remington 581. Don't understand "parallax" but I'm sure Google does. My 581 at 25 yards (squirrel range) will put 5 shots in a dime. Good guns. Good luck.

Not Green Swamp but same latitude and about 20 miles as the crow flies. Buddy's new 2018 Ford 350 after being struck by lightning on 3/21. Note the tree still smoking. Appears the lightning hit the tree and deflected into the unoccupied truck. Truck parked there since heavy hail was predicted and it...

Re: Have you got a Knight & Hale Gobbler Guide?

All joking aside my last FL season was a puzzle until the final few days when the birds finally went into that strut zone to strut zone pattern described in the Gobbler Guide. Glad to hear K and H were at the convention. They are both now "old geezers".

Re: How was your season?

Was lucky in that I had as much free time as needed to really wear myself out. Kept a log and hunted 10 actual days (plenty of other scouting days prior to the opener). Took a bird on hunt day #5 then ended the season on hunt day #10 with bird #2. Never had a good feel for what stage the gobblers we...
