Re: So much for mild winter

I haven't been out much since Jan 3 rd so the cold isn't really bothering me lol Last week the wife had to shovel in -42 with the wind chill I almost felt sorry for her :D My friend in Nebraska had over 300 turkeys in his ranch last winter feeding in the cattle yards but he doesn't seem to mind feed...

Re: So much for mild winter

I guess I'll find out in April like every spring. This is the first time I've actually heard him complain about the cold though ! Snow can make a difference for sure. We just got hit with freezing ran but most of the snow had receded so I think the game can still dig through not like when we get a f...

Re: So much for mild winter

I talked to my buddy on the week end and he said it has been bad for while now. He is having tough time keeping some of his cattle warm which is unusual ! I didn't even ask how he thought the mule deer, antelope and turkeys are doing !

Re: Spooking turkeys

Cur pup scattered that flock of hens pretty good this morning... I'd break it, but I'm kinda thinking he could make a turkey cur. See now I'd take 12 people out calling early compared to one dog running them especially here in the winter where they can't afford to use up their last reserves being c...

Re: Getting bird back home from out of state

I watched a couple videos on how to case a bird. Then I did it on a few birds at home. When I travelled to get my slam mounts I just cased out the bird and froze it. Make sure you cover the head in the event it leaks blood. I cut the tail off as most taxi do this anyway. I was staying in a motel so ...

Re: Late season ducks and pheasants

That is awesome ! Love those bird dogs. I have a buddy that's down in Texas right now chasing quail. He takes his dogs down (english pointers) with him to get some work while its closed season here. When I was deer hunting in Kansas last fall I saw several coveys of quail and pheasants more than I h...

Re: Iowa turkey season

Its too bad its Iowa for turkey might be worth it if it was good deer ground to me. A turkey is a turkey especially an eastern. And for $278 bucks to kill one eastern on a hunt you have to pick a zone and apply and maybe only get 5 days to hunt well there a way better opportunities in my opinion. Bu...

Re: Decoys

If I could only buy one decoy and it had to be a hen I would get the DSD upright or maybe the leading hen. They did not have the leading hen when I got my upright hen but it looks like it would work. I can say the upright is killer from experience. Everything from old boss toms in spring to fall jen...

I almost feel like I'm missing the boat by not shooting TSS...almost. What do you shoot when we hunt together? Obviously, I just "shoot the ****" when we hunt together. Too much of a good thing turns the universe upside down. Turkeys hear that we are coming and run to the next county. I think Ricky...
