Bird #2 in TN

20180426_121344_resized_1.jpg Been pretty slow for me since opening morning. Caught this guy out strutting and gobbling in a field around 9:30. Had about a 3hr window to hunt in the rain, but I had him killed in less than 30. He is just a 2yr old bird that liked to show off to much. First bird I ha...

Fiancée's first Gobbler.

She has gone with me a handful of times over the past few years but this is her first year behind the gun. So far she has been very spoiled. She doubled up with me on opening day, killing a jake with a 3.75in beard. She slept in yesterday while I spent the better part of the day walking ridges. I ca...

Re: Longbeards

Well I only killed two birds last year, both were around 10 yards. I was shooting #5s through my Indian Creek. Each time I had to swing and shoot. Ended up disintegrating the beards on each bird. Pretty disappointing.

Re: How far do you drive

As of last season a 300 yard walk behind the house on Easter morning, birds moved in when I left for college. Used to drive five minutes down the road when I went to school in the Cumberland Gap. Avg place now 20-30 min drive. Do have a couple properties I'll drive an hour or more for but they are w...

Roosting birds well after dark?

I am only gonna get to hunt the weekends this season. Im barely going to be able to make it to the properties to listen at fly up. Although I will be able to make it out there I cant be within earshot of all the potential roosts at last light. Also have multiple properties to listen at as well. Im j...

Outstanding diaphragm calls?

I dont really have any issues talking dirty with the commercial calls but I am interested in trying some custom diaphragms. Still in college so I dont have the cash to buy and try one of each. So I figured I would ask here to help narrow my search. Let me know whats good!

Caught with no Camo

So i love mountain biking and i love turkey hunting, and the two together is a pretty wicked combo. However leafy suits and gears dont mix so i usually just shred in gym shorts and t-shirts, until i find a hot bird. I had been out in the morning at some state land and didnt hear a single gobble. Zip...

Re: Furthest you have seen a bird fly to get to your calls?

Several years ago, I had a gobbler hammering back to my calls from a ridge across a large reservoir/lake, probably 1/2 -3/4 mile away. The gobbler flew across the lake and landed about 50 yards below me and came in gobbling. I once had a bird gobbling on an adjacent finger off of the ridge which I ...

Have any of you ever killed a gobbler with a stick in it?

It happened to be the first bird i killed on my own. Got him home and breasted him out, only to find a six inch stick lodged and healed over in his breast. He was on the lighter side, im sure he wasnt too spunky carrying that around.

Furthest you have seen a bird fly to get to your calls?

Had one fly across a 400 yard wide gorge. He just glided on over the to the ridge i was on and hammered as his fee hit ground 30yrds below me. Couple purrs and a cut you know the rest lol
Anyone else ever had one fly to you? Also he was not on the roost, just strutting a field.
