Re: Sharing todays frustrations
There are imo opinion 2 kinds of turkey woods. One favors the Tom exclusively. The other does too but goes further to even the playing field. One is so open he can easily observe your calling site from out of range. The other thru terrain or slightly more cover forces your quarry into gun range in o...

Re: Sharing todays frustrations
If I get caught out of position by an approaching bird appearing out of range I just sit still till they are well within range . I then make my move steadily and smoothly into position and shoot. Not too fast(predatory) and not too slow ( giving him time to process and react). It won’t always work b...

Re: Happy Birthday Gobbler
Happy Birthday! You have to love an afternoon Tom that is lonely! My son and I were talking and while I’ve killed birds in the am not as many were right off the roost type hunts. A gobble ( especially an answer early season…) is solid gold because once the harem gathers around, these ECMS birds don...

Happy Birthday Gobbler
IMG_1757.jpeg Well, a little good fortune for me. I instigated a mid afternoon assault on an area I call the “ Bachelor Pad”. I give it that term because in the past, IF a bird is struck there, he is alone and ready for action. Once I arrived I sent a call out over the area with Dixie a crystal sla...

Re: Range Estimation
I have misjudged open areas twice already this year! 1st way I corrected this is I started carrying my range finder. Ten seconds to shoot a couple ranges when I sit down. 2nd way I’m fixing this is I got my tail back in the woods where I had better reference and much less chance of underestimating. ...

Re: Mossburg 835
So Carlson makes a .650 constriction for the 835? I’m sorry - I did not specify. I do not know what Carlsons restrictions are for the 835. I assumed perhaps wrongly that you were taking choke recommendations for LB ammo. My shotgun is the Franchi TT. I have been happy with its performance. If I thr...

Re: Mossburg 835
I’m running the Carlson LB choke supposedly made for the Longbeard ammo. It’s either that or IC for me. Mine is 650 construction. Theirs a turkey target in a previous thread of mine that is my 650 Carlson and 3.5LBXR 2oz 6’s.I think this is it.

Re: Turkey Hunting Public Land
What he said AND: be the first one to your parking spot and respect the hunter there before you by moving on. Other hunters will not practice the same but they should. When you are the first one there, hunt like you are the only one there but defensively. What that means is never stalk turkey sounds...
Re: Carlsons
I shoot a Carlson LB with lead and it is a 650…. TSS is reported to pattern better with a more open choke. In my uneducated opinion, 640 is tight

Yessir! I really like the Mossy SA28 for a dedicated Turkey rig. I also hear someone on here has a “cherry” load for it that is supposedly the “Bomb”!

Good Luck, GOD Speed and Safety to All
Mississippi kicks off Friday the 15th. I’m going to go listen in this am and glass a hayfield. It’s been torrential downpours the last 24 so “Dad” may beat feet to an open area to escape the drip. Logan and I checked zero on our guns so we ready! I pray safety and good times for all. For anybody on ...

Nothing official just observation: Full fan equals 2nd spring Beard is suggestive of 2+ but not after( as in: he had a longish beard so I shot him). They can also have little or no beard( see my story from last season). Spurs are (maybe) slightly better at age but not all inclusive. If he has inch a...

Re: Anyone hunting?
I’ve been this archery- had some doe luck. A target buck has disappeared for the last 10 days… that’s not a strange occurrence but I wish he was more regular. Had a cool snap last week- it’s been back in the daily 80’s so I’ve just been prepping wanting to go.

Re: Nest raiders
I can’t put an average number to how many nests a raccoon destroys. I do know they are opportunistic and will definitely eat eggs.I know too that over the years I definitely have noted an increase in daylight activity of raccoons around the nesting season of my area turkeys. I also know that the use...

BTW; not sure it’s still available but TFT had a special on the DPTraps for members. About 1/2 what they normally run in my area. If you are not (yet) a member, check it out. In fact, you can join AND buy a dozen for less than that dozen will cost you retail….

Re: Nest raiders
They thick here in Mississippi… I agree on the bounty. If we gonna keep our bag at 3, you should have to trap to get the last two tags. I believe that would directly and indirectly help the birds- and that is a win in my book.

Re: Worlds Smallest Turkey Gun
I watch a good bit of pattern video's and it is beyond me why people don't use a larger backing to see the whole pattern? Old wrapping paper is cheap and by counting the number of shot in a turkey head without knowing if you are truly centered in the pattern seems unproductive. Casey This. Learned ...

Don’t see much on there from Carl Holifield anymore…. Those are just a few of the shenanigans that make a Turkey hunter want to puke. Even if he was just being funny there’s a whole state full of idiots that might try and emulate him- and possibly suffer the consequences…. Anyway I don’t want...
