Re: For Your Viewing Pleasure - cause you can't hunt

Very cool. I hate we don't have panthers around here, but I'm also glad we don't have 'em around here.

I've been seeing more trucks parked where you don't normally see vehicles. Season opens here tomorrow and I fear more hunters in the woods than usual.

Re: Coronavirus aka Chinavirus

I have a friend from Italy, who is working in Nigeria at the moment. He said his family is freaking out over COVID 19. The entire country is on lockdown and people are dropping like flies. They're not making this up or B.S.-ing the numbers, it is real. I heard on the news that chloroquine may be eff...

The woman who owns one of the horse farms I hunt had muskrats in her pond & was scared they'd cut holes enough wash out the dam, which had the main road in and out of the farm. She asked me if I could get rid of 'em. I took a climbing deer stand & the .22 Mag and eliminated the problem in 2 ...

Re: NOT HAPPY!!!!

I would have made the shot first & taken my chances. Back in 1980 I was duck hunting in Colorado and had a crippled mallard with a broken wing go down in some cattails. It was a few minutes from the end of legal shooting time and by the time I found and finished off the duck, it was dark. The Ga...

Good to see you here birddogdad. Thank you for yours and your son's service. My nephew is stationed in Washington as a machinist's mate on a Boomer. He was recently switched to another boat, but I can't recall which and he's out to sea currently, so I'll have to wait to ask. My great uncle, B.D. Cla...

Opening Day '07 with my old SBE & a P.O.S. red dot. The site worked, but threw the balance of the gun off. I gave it away after this hunt.

5-11-13 Effects of an 11 yard shot..jpg
This guy got too close (11 yards) on the last day of the 2013 season when I had one tag left. Two ounces of Hevi 6's don't play at 33 feet...I guess no turkey load does....
He had beard rot, but a full fan.

What's your heaviest & lightest gobbler?

I was looking at some pictures of turkeys I've killed over the years and my heaviest was 24.5 pounds while my lightest was 17.5 pounds. Both were killed here in North Carolina (on the same property a year apart). How about you, what's your heaviest & lightest gobblers?

The doe on the right in the second picture from the top has a broad throat patch. She also has white up between her hooves. There's a few around my house that have those same white streaks, but their throat patch is pretty minimal.

Happy Day!

I got home early from work and found 12 turkeys in the woods behind the house. They left before I could change lenses on the camera and dig the binoculars out from my turkey vest in the closet. First time I've seen them here since October.

I'll be hunting Durham, Orange,Granville, Franklin, Warren, and Chatham County in North Carolina if I'm lucky. As much as I'd love to hunt other states, unless something changes, N.C. is gonna be it for me.

Re: Burris speed bead

I've had one on my SBE II for several years. Love it. I wasn't wild about having the receiver drilled & tapped. The Speed Bead brings the sight closer to my eye and doesn't affect the balance of the gun. I wish Burris made one for a 20 ga. 870.

Nice bucks & Congrats to Sal.

Deer don't have top front teeth. It's a cartilage pad on top. They cut grasses and pick up nuts with their bottom teeth forced against the pad. You'll be able to age it better by checking the molars.

My great uncle, B.D Claggett, was a submarine commander of the SS Dace and others in the Pacific theater. He saw a lot of action and still ranks in the top 10 of tonnage sunk by a sub commander. I don't know how much time he spent around Midway, but I remember him speaking of it. He had lots of war ...

Where the ____ is the NWTF and their relocation projects? Seems like a job for canon nets to me. Move those birds where they might be beneficial to the habitat instead of around a bunch of cranky New Jersey residents and their manicured lawns. Win/Win the way I see it.
